What is NeoGraft Hair Transplant?

NeoGraft is a hair transplant procedure that harvests healthy hair follicles from an area of healthy growth and transplants individual follicles to the receding hairline. The NeoGraft hair transplant surgery is considered a “touchless” method, as it is automated. This hair restoration surgery leaves the hair follicles in a healthier and robust state, providing the hair surgeon with efficient, successful, and repeatable results. It also provides his patients with natural-looking and feeling heads of hair with no linear scar to see or feel.

What Methods Are Available for Hair Transplant?

There are several methods used for Houston hair transplants for new hair growth, including the “Strip Harvesting” method of hair restoration and the follicular unit extraction (FUE) method. The NeoGraft hair-restoration technique is an FUE procedure.
Modern hair transplant surgeries encompass aspects of both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Please, choose your hair doctor or surgeon wisely, and be sure to do your homework and research. At Rivela Plastic Surgery, we know your final hairline results and your brand-new hair growth are highly dependent on the artistry and skill of your surgeon and his trained staff.

“Strip Method” Hair Restoration

From a surgical standpoint, the strip harvesting method of hair transplantation is more involved and is a much more aggressive surgical procedure with more potential medical complications, more health restrictions, and longer downtime.
This older method of hair transplantation and restoration also involves shaving a section of the scalp as a donor, but instead of automatically extracting hair grafts at random, in this method, the surgeon then uses a scalpel to cut two linear incisions above and below the donor area and then surgically removes a long linear section of the scalp.
Next, the excised portion of the harvested, shaved scalp is divided up and placed under microscopes, where technicians using sharp blades separate grafts into divided units of one to four carefully separated hairs. While the hair technicians are separating the grafts, the hair surgeon closes the incision with staples or sutures. At that point, the surgeon and the team of hair technicians move to prepare the recipient site and front hairline. The grafts are then placed by hand.

What is the NeoGraft Hair Restoration Procedure Like?

With NeoGraft hair extraction and implantation procedure at Rivela Plastic Surgery in the Woodlands, TX, there is less bleeding and fewer complications than with Strip Method traditional hair transplants used in most other medical hair-loss solutions. NeoGraft hair restoration for the treatment of male pattern baldness or thinning hair is a very safe, minimally invasive, relatively minor procedure. No skin is removed during the procedure, unlike most other Houston hair transplants.

The NeoGraft procedure performed in our Woodlands office uses a small amount of local anesthetic. We also offer the Pro-Nox system, which allows patients to safely administer a 50/50 mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen gas. This analgesic allows patients to ease any pain, discomfort, and anxiety themselves. It takes effect very quickly, and recovery from the gas is also very quick.

After the donor site is prepared, the NeoGraft medical device is used to skillfully harvest individual hair follicles from the donor site using a tiny 1 mm punch. When enough follicles are extracted at random, the hair transplant procedure moves to the front of the head, transplanting each donor hair with the same individually automated system.

After our NeoGraft hair transplant, there is no visible linear scarring to make it difficult for our patients to wear their hair short. As part of the NeoGraft hair transplantation procedure, the donor site is selected on the back of the head and then shaved. Many times with longer hair, the shaved donor site is completely hidden. With larger hair transplant cases, a larger area is shaved, but afterward, the hair grows back naturally.

NeoGraft Hair Transplant FAQs

Can PRP grow new hair?

Yes, studies have shown that with a series of four treatments, PRF works particularly well in growing new hair for men and women with androgenic alopecia (hormone-related or age-related hair loss).

Does hair fall out after PRF?

No, there is no hair loss associated with PRF injections.

Does PRF thicken hair?

Yes, studies have shown PRF works particularly best for androgenic alopecia, which is known as hormone-related hair loss or thinning hair in men and women. It works best with hair loss associated with aging to thicken hair.

Can PRF cause blood clots?

No, there is no associated increase risk of blood clots associated with PRF treatments.

How fast does PRF work?

Studies show PRF results are best seen as soon as three months with final results seen in 9 to 12 months.

Can you exercise after PRF injections?

It is important not to exercise for the first 24 hours after your PRF injections. After 24 hours you can resume your regular exercise regime.

How long does PRF last?

Studies show results are best between 18-24 months with yearly touch-ups.

How often can you get PRF injections?

Studies show PRF results are best with a series of four treatments performed once every 4 to 6 months with optimized results repeated once annually.

Does PRF for hair loss work for everyone?

Unfortunately, no, PRF does not work well for everyone. Studies have shown it works particularly best for androgenic alopecia, which is known as hormone-related hair loss or thinning hair in men and women. It works best with hair loss associated with aging.

What's the difference between PRP and PRF for hair restoration?

PRP therapy involves extracting a small amount of blood, which is then processed using a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets in a plasma base. This platelet-rich plasma is injected into the scalp, where the growth factors in the platelets help stimulate hair follicles and promote hair growth. In contrast, the blood used in PRF is spun in the centrifuge at a slower speed, allowing for a higher concentration of fibrin and white blood cells, along with platelets. PRF forms a gel-like substance that releases growth factors more gradually over time. This slower release may enhance the stimulation of hair follicles.

How many PRP treatments do I need to see results for hair loss?

For individuals seeking non-surgical hair restoration, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy has emerged as a popular method. Typically, patients may require an initial series of three to four PRP treatments, spaced about four to six weeks apart, to begin noticing improvements in hair density and thickness. Many patients report seeing visible results within a few months after completing the initial set of treatments.

Is PRP for hair restoration painful?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for hair restoration is generally considered to be a minimally invasive procedure with tolerable levels of discomfort for most patients. During the procedure, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient, processed to isolate the platelet-rich plasma, and then injected into the scalp at multiple sites. Some people report mild discomfort or a tingling sensation during the injections, but this is often well-managed with the use of topical numbing creams applied before the procedure.

Can I combine PRP with other hair restoration treatments?

Yes, combining Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy with other hair restoration treatments can be an effective strategy to enhance results. This procedure is versatile and often used alongside other treatments such as Minoxidil or Finasteride, which are topical and oral medications, respectively, known for their efficacy in treating hair loss.

What are the side effects of PRF hair restoration?

PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) hair restoration is a non-surgical method used to promote hair growth, leveraging the body's natural healing processes. While PRF is generally considered safe, there are potential side effects associated with this treatment. Commonly reported side effects include mild pain or discomfort at the injection site, temporary redness, swelling, bruising, and itching.

How long before I see results from PRP hair restoration?

Typically, visible improvements from PRP hair restoration can start appearing within three to four months after the initial treatment. It's important to note that the process involves multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart, and consistency is key for optimal results. Maximum results are usually seen between six months and a year, as this timeline allows the hair follicles to fully respond to the treatment.

Am I a good candidate for PRP if I have complete baldness?

If you are experiencing complete baldness, PRP may not be the most suitable option for achieving significant hair regrowth. PRP works by stimulating the follicles that are still active or in a dormant state, so in cases where hair follicles are no longer present due to full baldness, the treatment might have a limited impact.

What should I avoid after PRP hair restoration treatment?

After undergoing a PRP hair restoration treatment, you'll want to avoid washing your hair for at least 12 to 24 hours following the treatment to allow the PRP to settle into your scalp effectively. It's also important to steer clear of chemical hair treatments, such as hair dyes or perms, for at least a week, as their chemicals can interfere with the healing process. Additionally, try to avoid direct sun exposure to your scalp for several days, as the skin might be more sensitive post-treatment.

How does PRP compare to hair transplant surgery like NeoGraft?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy and NeoGraft are popular methods for addressing hair loss, but they operate quite differently. PRP is a treatment involving the injection of a patient's own platelets to stimulate hair growth. It is a minimally invasive procedure that aims to use growth factors in the platelets to rejuvenate hair follicles, making it a suitable option for those in the early stages of hair loss. On the other hand, NeoGraft is a form of hair transplant surgery that involves harvesting hair follicles from a donor area of the scalp and transplanting them to areas experiencing hair loss.

Can women get PRP for hair restoration?

Absolutely! Women can undergo Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy for hair restoration. PRP therapy is considered a highly effective option for women experiencing hair thinning or hair loss, and it offers the benefit of using a natural substance derived from the patient's own body, minimizing the risk of adverse reactions.
